Government Cover-ups
(originally written 1/31/02)

==================

We have heard of major attempts by the government to cover-up certain incidents and scandals such as Watergate, Iran/Contra, Whitewater, and many others. If there has been this many "crooked" activities in the past, The ones we have heard about publicly is probably just the "tip of the iceberg" - about 2%. Can you imagine what the other 98% of "behind the scenes" activity goes on without public knowledge ?

People get framed in all these illegal and undocumented actions - but how would we know ? What is the unsuspecting public told, "It is in the best interest of our national security"! It would be honestly better to say, "To carry out this action, is in the best interest of (so & so's) pockbook".

There is a reason why the populace has less and less trust of politicians, lawyers, investigators, and those in authority. Because there have so many instances within these groups, where those involved have been caught in their misdeeds and then they lie about it. What is the saying "It is not illegal until you get caught!". The Webster's definition of a politician should include a liar and a cheat as a part of their "inheirent character make-up". These traits are necessary to effectively carry out "political duties". This applies to all!

The national press never even reported in the 1930's & 40's about President Roosevelt having polo. The standard answer given later on was that - showing the president in a wheelchair and having polo would make him appear weak as a leader and not "up to the task" of carrying out the duties of the presidential office.

So, now do you actually believe everything the media tells you ? In reality, when the media reporter corps usually covers some story anywhere in the government, they get almost all of their sources about the government, from within the government. It could be in the forms of press releases, documents, reports, rumours, and the like.

Have you heard of "leaks to the press" ? Why would there be a "leak" unless someone is trying to influence a decision, policy, or a law. Somewhere someone is going to benefit from this course of action, in a major way. This tactic applies in all cultures, groups, and countries.

The government eventually gets the media to tell the people what the ruling elites want the people to know and hear. Most of the time, it is usually NOT the whole truth. Each media outlet has a major slant to their newspaper or news broadcast. A good indicator of determining, which bias is taken, is to note who are the guests speakers, opinion experts, etc. on the various information programs on the stations, magazines, or newspapers. The facts are certain types of people will be invited and be espoused and others be neglected.

Don't tell us that American troops "took out" Osama bin Laden in some Afghan or Pakistani cave. Show us "the body" and the story will be believable!
