Much of the United States' history has been based on fear, lies, broken promises, as well as, "re-adjusted" worthless treaties. The Native Americans can relate to the latter, as a result of being "fed" a long line of bullshit by the government, "leaders", & elites.
Then, why is the American people surprised by the current behavior of the nation's "leaders"?
Considering lying "your ass off" has been the "status quo" in this country for two centuries.
Gullible populace! Believing what the media tells you.
The definition of insanity is - doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting different results.
